Get to Know the Superintendent

Dr. Aspasia Angelou brings 26 years of educational experience as a teacher, teacher trainer, assistant principal, high school principal, and director of high school design. She is currently in her seventh year serving as Superintendent of Nadaburg Unified School District No. 81 in Wittmann, Arizona, where she leads with a commitment to high quality instruction, innovation in career pathways, and excellence in education in a growing rural/suburban community.

The daughter of immigrant parents and a native of Seattle, Washington, Dr. Angelou graduated from the University of Washington. Her career has taken her across the country—from Texas, where she worked as an educator and advanced placement teacher trainer, to Oklahoma, where she served as a school administrator for eight years and Oklahoma State Principal of the Year in 2017 for the significant academic gains achieved by her students in Oklahoma City, and her school was recognized as a Model Professional Learning Community School by Solution Tree. She served as Director of High School Design for Tulsa Public Schools before coming to Nadaburg as Superintendent.

Her leadership has received international recognition. In 2017, she was awarded a Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Scholarship to attend the Women Leading Education International Conference in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In 2018, she collaborated with the Ministry of Education in China to expand STEM programming and explore innovative school models. In Oklahoma and Arizona, Dr. Angelou has worked tirelessly to advocate for legislation on behalf of students, teachers, and public education.

Dr. Angelou holds a doctoral degree in Educational Administration and Leadership from Texas A&M University at Commerce, a master’s degree from Texas Woman’s University, and a superintendent’s certification from the University of Oklahoma. She also completed a 14-month certification with the National Institute for School Leadership (NISL) in Washington, DC, and continues to train school leaders in effective instructional and operational practices.

She is the author of The Principal’s Handbook for Priority Schools in a PLC at Work, a practical guide for school leaders focused on positive transformation in schools to meet the needs of every student. Dr. Angelou remains dedicated to supporting schools and communities with integrity, purpose, and a vision for sustainable impact.
